Friendly's at Delco Plaza in Hicksville Ny Closed and gone

It was a big and sad disappointment and a shock to me, when I went to Friendly's at Delco Plaza to treat myself to lunch, when I got there, the place was closed and empty. At first, I didn't see their Friendly's sign hanging from under the roof near the restaurant. What a big shame, as I loved that place. When I first moved to Nassau, the only Friendly's I knew of was in Plainview ny, and they closed within a few years. I really enjoyed eating there, as the staff, waiters and waitresses were all great and provided the best services possible. I felt at home there, and knew that I was going to get a great meal at good prices. They made the best pancakes for breakfast, burgers and sandwiches for lunch, and dinner. But they are the best known for making the best ice cream sundaes around. My personal favorite was the Resses Pieces Sundae. I had a blast when I ate there. At times, while  I was waiting for my meal, I would bring  some kind of paper pad to draw on to help pass the time away.
But it was worth the wait. Freindlys has  been around since I was a kid, and it was a real treat when taken there. I have to say that they had some very creative meals, such as a soup that was poured into the center of  freshly baked bread that had the center scooped out.
I'm sure that a lot of families and kids enjoyed their meals there as well, as it made it easier to feed their kids and not have to worry about washing the dishes or cleaning up after wards.
At times while I was there, I think that one of the waitresses may have had a little crush on me, or perhaps they were just being friendly.  But one of the most memorable things I'm going to miss is the Friendly's sundae snack cups. I was  told at the restaurant that they didn't have  them there, as they had no room in the freezer to put them, as you had to place an order with them, so they can get them and have them ready for you. The only store I knew that sold those sundae snack cups were King Kullen, Super Stop and Shop, but King Kullen by us is gone, and Super Stop and Shop is too far to shop at. On the plus side, I did manage to purchase a few boxes of Friendly's ice cream bars, so the memories will still be alive. Sad to see such a wonderful place go, but I  guess that Friendly's didn't make enough money to continue to stay open at that location. Maybe in the future, Friendly's will have a special ice cream  truck that will offer their great ice cream sundaes, cones, and such. Probably not, but one can have ice cream dreams. Hey, since the Broadway mall is making changes and has new owners, maybe Friendly's can open up at the Broadway Mall.

Friendly's is now closed and gone, but the sweet ice cream memories
will never melt away from me.

Breakfast at Friendly's

This morning I went to Friendly's for breakfast. I'm not much of a morning person, but with Friendly's, it's a great reason to star your mornings with so many great breakfast choices. This was my breakfast I had, eggs, bacon, toast, orange juice and milk, doesn't that look yummy.

Sunny Side Up Is the Way To Start Your Breakfast at Friendly's

Sure, they have lots of great choices, like pancakes, with cool syrup flavors, Belgian waffles, French toast, and much, much more. I got tired of the cereal thing for breakfast every day, and just wanted something special and different. While I was there, they have a bunch of new things on the menu.
For starters, they have a new Crackerjack ice cream sundae, does it come with a prize? Friendly's is the coolest place for the best ice cream treats, like their birthday cake Friend-Z's .They come in all types of flavors and it's mixed and blended together with your choice of ice cream flavor and various candy toppings. They also have a limited fun sundae that comes served in a fun sandcastle toy that you can make sand castles in, but it's only available for a limited time. They also have a new lineup of ice teas, including Mango, and even Strawberry lemonade.
While there, the kids can get a colorful balloon, and maybe after you meal, you can take chance at their prize crane machine for a chance to win various stuffed toys.  But the fun doesn't have to end there, as you  can purchase their delicious assortment of ice cream cakes, Sheberts, and many other ice cream treats to  take home. They also sell the sundae snackcups, but I was told that they have no room in their freezer for it, so you probably have to go and place an order and pick it up later. All I have to say is that Friendly's has made my mornings wonderful, and their food is the  best.

breakfast at Friendly's- Belgain Waffles with strawberries, whipped cream.

This morning, I managed to get up and get myself ready to go to Friendly's for breakfast. Normally I'm not a morning person, as I usually go to Friendly's for either lunch or dinner. Today I had ordered the Belgian waffle with whipped cream, strawberries, as well as the butter and caramel syrup, and a side order of bacon. Let me tell you that I don't recall ever having a Belgian waffle, as I've heard so much about it, as it was served at the Ny World's Fair in the 1960's. The price to get into the fair I think was only 50  cents, and the cost of the Belgian waffles were $1.00, which was twice the price for the paid admission to get inside. This was from a documented special I saw on WLIW 21 called
The 1960's World Fair, as various people and combined home movies documented the history of this 9 month event. Tons of people had recalled their pleasant sweet memories of getting the Belgian waffle, and no matter where else they got the waffle, it wasn't the same as in the world's fair.
The only reminiscent thing of the NY world's fair is the giant globe, that's featured in the area where the fair was held. Many people couldn't believe that it was all there. and now it's gone.
Friendly's makes a great breakfast, and come with strong and big appetites as after you have your breakfast at Friendly's, you will  be full and happy. I would highly recommend  that everyone should go to Friendly's for their breakfast, or any other meal during the day.

the Friendlys gift cards

this year, I managed to purchase 2 $25 gift cards to Friendly's to give a Christmas gifts to family members. Now the coolest part was that upon purchasing a $25 gift  card to Friendly's you get a $5 gift card for free. So you can say that I made someone's Christmas a little sweeter by giving some family members those $30 gift cards to Friendly's.

a flirty waitress at Friendly's

On my last trip to Friendly's, everything was great,  including the service. I really enjoyed their toasted sandwich that was a miniature Philadelphia cheesesteak, a very yummy and tasty thing to eat.
I've noticed that one of the waitresses or women working behind the counter had smiled and winked at me. Maybe she was being friendly, or flirty.  Afterwards, when I left, she was outside smoking and wanted to know if I enjoyed the meal and if everything was good. I said the meal and everything was fine thank you. I'm sure she's just being friendly, but she probably is already married, or has a boyfriend and a few kids of her own.

Friendly's satisfied my hunger

This afternoon, I walked to the bus stop and waited for the bus. It wasn't a very long walk, but it was a little  chilly. Afterwards, it was suddenly that I was hit with this strong hunger as if I hadn't eaten in a long  time, well since breakfast anyway. I was really, really hungry and felt weak, a little light headed and needed some food. When the bus finally came to pick us all up, I couldn't wait to get to Friendly's, and finally I was there and got off. I was relieved to get inside and sat down at a booth table. For lunch, I got one of the their juicy and moist burgers with onion rings, tomatoes and lettuce on it, with a side order of fries. Then after saying a little prayer of thanks, I just dug in. The bun for the burger was huge as well as the burger itself. It took two hands for me to pick up that bad boy and took a big bite out of it. It was soooo good, and the side order of fries was great as well. To drink, I got a lemonade and ice water. The best part of this meal was that it came with a happy ending sundae.
I was hoping that they would still have that delicious pumpkin pie ice cream, as it was a two scoop sundae. The waitress told me that they are all out of that flavor and she agreed that it was really, really good. So my choice of ice cream was a scoop of resses peanut butter cup, and a scoop of forbidden fudge with hot fudge topping, whipped cream and a cherry. Let me tell you that hit the spot and it was a very sweet ending to that wonderfull meal. And the whole thing costed me about $13. Not a bad price, and I felt soo much better afterwards. Thanks Friendly's.

Start your mornings with Friendly's breakfasts

It's often a wonderful treat, whenever I go to Friendly's for breakfast. Mostly, I often enjoy Pancakes with fruit on top and whip cream, sausages or bacon, and a glass of milk and orange juice. But everyone usually enjoys other breakfast meals there. Some people might get eggs, or special egg breakfast sandwiches with toast. But other people usually enjoy french toast, or wafflels. Whatever you enjoy eating for breakfast, Friendly's has it. Years ago, they had a promotional all you can eat buffet for breakfast on Sunday mornings only for one low price. I found out that was a great way to have breakfast if you just can't decide on what you want. So you just  filled up your plate with a little bit of everything. And if you feel old fashioned, I'm sure they have hot oatmeal and coffee and tea. It's always a great place to eat with Friendly service and great food.
