Happy 75 Friendly's

I had eaten at Friendly's for lunch and learned that Freindly's restruant has been in business for 75 years, since it's grand opening in 1935. Wow, that sounds so great, and we should let the celebrations begin to commemerate Friendly's with such great food, and extremely friendly service. Wow, think of the birthday cake that can be used for the party, and all made with ice cream, candy, toppings, whipped cream, cherries, hot fudge, peanut butter, the works. They still make great food, and after my lunch there, my tummy is now in it's friendly mood. They never cease to amaze me with all the new things they come up with, like their newest sundae made from the new Whoopie snack cakes.

Cotton Candy flavored Sundae

I had gotten one of those meal deals where afterwards you had gotten a free happy ending sundae. I decided to be creative and wanted the great tase of summer on a sundae. I asked the waitress if she had a cotton candy flavored sundae. Well, the closest she had was a cotton candy flavored syrup topping that is put onto sundaes for younger kids. Ok, I thought that I would give it a try, with soft server vanilla ice cream. I remember a mother with her 3 kids sitting in a table in front of me, and the mother had overheard my order and then asked me "Isn't that exciting?" So I got my cotton candy flavored sundae, and tried it. It was good and kind of like a creamy cotton candy, but a taste of summer for me.

Friendly's sundae snackcups

I love those things, since it's a very small version of your favorite
Friendly's ice cream sundae. Now you would probably think that all Friendly's restaurants have the sundae snackcups to take home right? Well. there's a Friendly's nearby us that doesn't have any of those snackcups to take home, since they have no room within their display freezer to put them in. Most likely you would have to place an order for them a head of time so they can get it for you, and you probably have to order more than a dozen of them. But I managed to find those sundae snack cups being sold in King Kullen, which is convenient. But you just can't beat that great taste of those snack cups. My personal favorite is the Reese's Pieces sundae, the peanut butter cup sundae, and the hot fudge sundae.

Friendly memories of the past

As a kid growing up, I loved Friendly's and going there was a treat, since I couldn't walk there. Back then, mostly it was like a tradition of after going to a play or concert at a school during the night, afterwards you went to Friendly's. Why, just for the good ice cream sundaes they have. And my favorite was always the Reese's Pieces Sundae, as it has peanut buttery goodness. I remember paying for one that cost my whole allowance of $2.50. I didn't know about the tipping at the time, but my mom took care of that.
Most other times we went to Friendly's it was for a dinner with my sister and my mom, and I mostly got the hamburger platters, with the happy ending sundae at the end.
One really cool promotion they had was when they had sold these wooden puzzles that involved these little pegs you put into holes. It featured simple things like tic tac toe and such. But one memorable game was Tricky Triangle. Upon placing the little pegs into the holes, you left out one hole and you had to jump the pegs untill you can no longer jump anymore pegs. And the fewer pegs you had left on the board, the higher your score was. So they had the game at all the tables as in someting you can do while you wait for your food to come. It was fun, but hard when your mother and sister are watching you play. So afterwards when you lose, you sister then says my turn and plays the game and gets the high score.
One very special memory I have is when they had this device hanging on the wall that lit up various numbers and then you heard a doorbell sound afterwards. Each of the table had a number sticker on it, so I guess that the display would light up a certain number to indicate that a table number's order is ready to be picked up. I loved that thing. Friendly's is one special place to go to, especially, when you get some of their sundae snackcups to take home. sorta like a minature version of their sundaes. They were expensive, but fun to get.

Friendy's Burger Melts

I saw the commercial on tv about Friendly's new burger melts. They looked sooo good, and I just had to go there and try one. It's like two grilled cheese sandwiches and a hamburger patty in between with lettuce, tomato, onion, and it's very, very, good. It's pure genious and good food. It came with fries and reasonably priced for about $8.99. They do offer other melts like barbecue chicken and such, but you just gotta go there and get one, the melts will melt in your mouth.
